SSL Certificates
SSL certificates help secure websites and web services by encrypting information exchanged between users and sites. Certificates are available at no cost for eligible ucsb.edu domains, and campus website or service owners can request SSL certificates through ServiceNow.
Requesting SSL Certificates
Contact ssl@ucsb.edu if you have any questions related to the certificate request process.
Subdomain Delegation
ITS may delegate the management SSL certificates in a subdomain to a department or unit.
Network Infrastructure Planning
ITS Communications Services provides planning guidance to support campus construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects that may impact UCSB's communications network. This includes coordination on wiring standards, fiber optic cable plant needs, and exterior antenna installations.
When to contact us
Contact ITS early in the planning process if your project may involve:
- New construction or building renovation
- Telecommunications wiring, pathways, or spaces
- Fiber optic cable needs
- Temporary facilities or interim locations
- Exterior antenna installation
- Network design, estimating, or scheduling considerations
Standards and Guidelines
Project teams should review UCSB’s current communications infrastructure standards and planning guidelines before developing construction documents, specifications, or cost estimates.
Fiber Optic Cable and Antenna Requests
ITS coordinates campus fiber optic cable plant planning and exterior antenna installation reviews. Departments, vendors, or project teams should contact us before beginning work that requires fiber allocation, network infrastructure changes, or antenna installation approval.
